Well TK Brown, he left that mining town
He's going back to Detroit tonight
Hauling iron ore
from Negaunee to the shore
He'd make it to them harbor lights.

That freight had hauled him from a boy to a man
That weather had chiseled his life
That girl he left behind
is like a beacon in his mind
He'd bring her back to be his wife.

Those northern lights are shining bright
Shining him back home
Escanaba's not that far for an ore mining car,
But he won't be making Marquette tonight.

Halfway to town the signal lights were down
The switchman had made a mistake
TK saw those tracks,
knew there was no turning back
His life he would have to forsake

TK hit them brakes but them brakes wouldn't take
You could hear those iron rails whine
And the coal car in back
when it smashed through the stack
left nothing of TK behind.
